‘Operation Akhal’: One Terrorist Neutralized During Kulgam Encounter

A terrorist has been killed in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. This encounter started on Friday night and is still going on. The army has named this operation ‘Operation Akhal’. Giving information on the social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday morning, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said, “The firing continued throughout the night. The alert soldiers took action in a balanced manner and kept the siege strong. So far one terrorist has been killed and the operation is still going on.”

Security agencies had received information about the presence of terrorists in Akhal area of Kulgam on Friday. After this, the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation. Jammu and Kashmir Police also confirmed on ‘X’ and said that SOG, Army and CRPF teams are involved in the operation. This is the third major encounter this week. Earlier on Thursday, two terrorists were killed near the Line of Control in Poonch district, who were infiltrating into India from Pakistan. On Monday, three terrorists associated with the Pahalgam terror attack were also killed in a special operation.

Home Minister Amit Shah had informed in the Parliament that these three terrorists were from Pakistan and were involved in the killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam on April 22
