ECI to Release Final Voter List for Bihar after Special Intensive Revision

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is scheduled to publish the final voter list of poll-bound Bihar today as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The final electoral roll of Bihar after the SIR will consist of the names of all the electors who filled the enumeration forms to remain registered. Earlier, the ECI had released a draft roll on the 1st of August, following which it also released a list of 65 lakh voters, whose names were removed from the Bihar draft electoral roll after the SIR exercise.

Starting with Bihar, the Election Commission has said the SIR would be held across the country in order to clean up the electoral rolls, as the last intensive revision was held about 20 years ago. Meanwhile, the term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly is set to end on the 22nd of November. The SIR exercise just before the assembly elections in Bihar is an attempt to depart from the usual annual revision of rolls, where additions and deletions are made.
