Air Canada Sets Up Helpline After LaGuardia Runway Collision Kills 2 Pilots

Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau has announced a helpline and special assistance team after a runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport killed two pilots and injured dozens.

The Air Canada Express flight from Montreal collided with a Port Authority fire truck crossing the runway late Sunday, triggering a major emergency response and shutting down the operations at one of the busiest US airports. Out of the 76 people on board, at least 41 were hospitalised, while two fire truck occupants were in stable condition. Mr. Rousseau said the airline is focused on supporting those affected and is cooperating with investigators. The crash led to hours of closure at LaGuardia and over 500 flight cancellations.
