Romanian fighter jet targets suspected Ukrainian drone as part of NATO’s Baltic air policing

A Romanian F-16 fighter jet operating as part of NATO’s Baltic air policing mission reportedly shot down a suspected Ukrainian drone over central Estonia today. The incident is the latest in a series of cases in recent months in which Ukrainian drones targeting Russia have either crossed into or crashed within NATO territory. These episodes have increased as Kyiv intensifies its drone campaign against Russian energy infrastructure and weapons facilities.

Estonia’s defence minister said Ukraine had been urged to exercise greater caution, stressing that any strikes on Russian positions or targets should avoid routes close to NATO territory whenever possible.

Earlier on Sunday, Russian authorities said one of the largest Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory killed at least four people including three near Moscow and injured around a dozen others.

The incidents have heightened tensions within the Baltic states and further strained relations between the region and Russia.
