Police, the Army and CRPF searched an orchard at Naikpora Memender; no arrest or armed encounter was reported.

A joint security-force team uncovered a suspected militant hideout in an orchard in Shopian district on Monday and recovered a rifle, a pistol, ammunition and a grenade, officials said.
The operation was conducted at Naikpora Memender by Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force on the basis of specific information.
Officials listed the recovered material as one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62-mm ammunition, one pistol, six 9-mm rounds and one grenade.
The report did not identify an arrest, exchange of fire or casualty. It also did not establish which group owned the weapons or whether they had recently been used.
Investigators are seeking to determine the weapons’ origin, how long they had been stored and their intended use. Any attribution to a particular organisation should await forensic findings or a formal police statement supported by evidence.
Recovering a cached weapon can disrupt planned militant activity, but the operational significance depends on whether investigators can link the material to individuals, earlier attacks or a supply network.
Forensic examination may include ballistic comparison, fingerprint or DNA testing where viable, weapon serial-number tracing and analysis of the packaging or storage site.
Security agencies may conduct follow-up searches and question people connected with the location. Details of such operations should be reported only when officially confirmed to avoid compromising personnel or an active investigation.
