India Pushes Dialogue as Jaishankar Engages Both Russia and Ukraine

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India is in continuous touch with both Ukraine and Russia. He said New Delhi is exploring ideas and suggestions that could help mitigate or end the conflict.

Dr Jaishankar made the remarks while addressing a joint press conference with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski following their talks in Warsaw yesterday.

The External Affairs Minister reiterated that India believes that endless war must give way to an end to war. He said wars have no winners and only lead to more deaths, destruction and global costs.

He added that efforts should focus on promoting dialogue and diplomacy. He said India is committed to doing whatever it can to help bring the conflict to an end.

Dr Jaishankar reached Poland after visiting Ukraine, where he held talks with top Ukrainian leadership on Thursday.

During the media briefing, the External Affairs Minister said he discussed with his Polish counterpart the complex global challenges, including supply chain resilience and food, fuel and fertiliser security.

Both sides also reviewed the progress of the Joint Action Plan 2024-28, which focuses on trade and investment, defence, culture and multilateral cooperation.

Later, Dr Jaishankar also called on Polish President Karol Nawrocki and discussed the bilateral Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and the West Asia situation.

In Kyiv, Dr Jaishankar said that India is ready to extend any help in any manner to end the Ukraine-Russia war. He had also met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv on Thursday.

After talks with the External Affairs Minister, President Zelenskyy said that he was grateful to India for its commitment to ending the war.
