The government has taken a series of transformative policy measures aimed at promoting underground coal mining. The Union Coal Ministry stated that the decision addresses the traditional challenges of high capital investment and longer gestation periods, and reaffirms the government’s resolve to modernise the coal ecosystem while aligning with the broader vision of sustainable development.
The initiatives include a reduction in the floor revenue share from 4 to 2 per cent, and a complete waiver of the mandatory upfront payment requirement for underground mining ventures. These measures primarily focus on promoting sustainable development, unlocking untapped potential, and contributing to energy security and self-reliant industrial growth.
