Mukesh and Nita Ambani named in TIME’s first-ever philanthropy list

Reliance Industries chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, and his wife, Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani were included in TIME Magazine’s first ever Philanthropy list.

“Billionaire philanthropists Mukesh Ambani & Nita Ambani’s charitable initiatives are as varied & wide-ranging as the business empire that earned them an estimated $110 billion fortune,” said the magazine. “Mukesh, the chairman & managing director of the far-reaching Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited, & Nita, the founder & chair of the Reliance Foundation have funded initiatives affecting millions of Indians that have provided funding for scholarships; helped women strengthen their career skills; assisted rural communities with sustainable agriculture initiatives; supported water conservation projects; paid for the construction of hospitals; aided people with vision problems; & improved infrastructure for schools.”

The couple gifted Rs 407 crore (about $48 million) in 2024, placing them among the country’s biggest donors, it said.

The magazine also recognised Nita Ambani, who is the owner of the Mumbai Indians cricket team, for her contribution towards developing athletes. She has worked on providing world-class facilities to budding sportspersons, especially female athletes. About the initiative, Nita Ambani had said, “Their successes are even more special because of the difficulties women face in pursuing professional sport.”
