The joint military exercise “Austrahind-2025” between the Indian Army and the Australian Army is underway with great enthusiasm in Australia. The exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations, operations in insurgency-affected areas, and joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
This exercise is the fourth edition between the two countries. The armies of both countries are participating in tactical exercises, firing drills, field training, and yoga sessions. These activities enhance discipline, coordination, and joint efficiency among the troops. According to the Indian Army, the primary objective of this exercise is to enhance mutual cooperation between the two armies and strengthen their ability to address common security challenges.
Joint command post exercises, live firing, and field training are also conducted during the exercise. This enhances the capabilities of both armies in realistic combat situations. The ‘AustraHind’ series began in 2022 and has since become an important platform in bilateral defense relations.
The exercise is being participated by a contingent of 120 soldiers and officers of the Indian Army, led by a battalion of the Gorkha Rifles. It comprises selected soldiers from various branches of the Indian Army. The exercise is being conducted in urban, semi-urban, and open desert areas, involving strategy development, tactical exercises, special weapons skills, and mission operations.
The exercise will continue in Australia until October 26 and reflects the commitment of both countries in strengthening peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
