Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday asserted the upcoming Delhi assembly elections would lift the curtains off the ‘jugalbandi‘ between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His remark came hours after Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a blistering attack on him, saying that the former Delhi Chief Minister does not want the backwards, Dalits, tribals and minorities to get their due share.
In an X post, Kejriwal wrote that he would not comment on Rahul Gandhi’s statements because the Congress leader’s fight is to save his party, whereas, he (Kejriwal) was fighting to save the country.“Today Rahul Gandhi came to Delhi. He abused me a lot. But I will not comment on his statements,” Arvind Kejriwal wrote in an X post.
“His fight is to save Congress, my fight is to save the country,” he added.However, the BJP was quick to respond, saying that Kejriwal should first save his Delhi seat ahead of the assembly polls.Later, in a jibe at the BJP, Kejriwal responded to Malviya, saying, “I said just one line about Rahul Gandhi and the reply is coming from the BJP.”
“Perhaps, this Delhi election will expose the Jugalbandi going on behind the scenes between the Congress and the BJP for years,” he wrote.On Monday, Rahul Gandhi also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, specifically targeting Kejriwal at his first public meeting for Delhi assembly polls, Gandhi said that the AAP convenor was following “Modi’s strategy of propaganda and false promises” despite rising pollution, corruption and inflation in the national capital.
He also promised a caste survey in Delhi if the Congress formed the government in the national capital.
Gandhi hailed the work done under three successive Sheila Dikshit-led governments and asserted that neither Kejriwal nor the BJP can match the Congress’ track record.
The former Congress chief urged Kejriwal to make his stand clear on the issue of caste census and the demand for the removal of the 50 per cent cap on reservations. He promised that the Congress would get a nationwide caste census done and the 50 per cent cap on reservations would be removed through the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha when it forms a government at the Centre.
Training his guns at Kejriwal, Gandhi also recalled that the AAP chief had said that he would clean Delhi, remove corruption, and turn the national capital into Paris.The Congress and the AAP are part of the INDIA bloc. The two parties had fought the Lok Sabha election together in Delhi, but are contesting the assembly polls separately.
Delhi will go to polls on February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8.
