The 31st meeting of the Southern Zonal Council commenced at Kovalam near Chennai on Thursday with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the chair.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay felicitated Shah on the occasion.
The meeting, being held at a seaside resort on the outskirts of Chennai, is expected to deliberate on key inter-state and national issues concerning the southern states.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Karnataka, D K Shivakumar and V D Satheesan, respectively, are participating in the deliberations.
