France is preparing for a third consecutive weekend of protests over the rising cost of living and education, deploying 70,000 police officers and gendarmes amid growing youth-led demonstrations across Europe. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez warned of a very high risk of unrest, particularly after dark on Halloween. Authorities have also tightened security arrangements in Paris, rerouting demonstrations away from the city centre to prevent a repeat of earlier violence.
In Germany, Protests have been called in 30 cities across the country, demanding better education, healthcare, climate protection and affordable living conditions. Around 1,500 police officers have been deployed to maintain order in Berlin, including units from the federal police and other regions.
In Spain, Catalan police are preparing to activate their highest-level alert in Barcelona following calls for fresh gatherings. Rioting in the city last Saturday resulted in around 130 arrests.
Italian police are also on alert following clashes in Milan, Turin and Bologna.
