The ruling BJP is all set to retain power in Assam for the third consecutive term. Out of a total of 126 assembly seats, results have been declared for 74 constituencies so far. BJP has bagged 59 seats, while its allies AGP has won 05 seat and Bodoland People’s Front has secured 6 seats. On the other hand, Congress, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and TMC gained one seat each.
As per Trends available for the remaining 52 seats, BJP is leading in 23 seats, while its ally – AGP is ahead in 3 and Bodoland People’s Front in 04, Congress is leading in 19 seats, AIUDF in 1, Raijor Dal in one seat and Others in 1 seat.
The majority mark in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is 64 seats.
BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami has defeated Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat seat. Pijush Hazarika of BJP won against Congress’ Sri Bubul Das in Jagiroad constituency. In Dhemaji, BJP’s Ranoj Pegu won against Sri Sailen Sonowal. In Sissibargaon, the party’s Jiban Gogoi registered a victory against Dulal Chandra Boruah of the Raijor Dal.
BJP candidate and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading over his nearest Congress rival Bidisha Neog in the Jalukbari constituency.
Md. Nurul Islam of Congress in surging in Srijangram constituency.
AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, who is contesting from Binnakandi in Hojai district is leading against AJP’s Rejaul Karim Chowdhury.
Polling in the state for all 126 seats was held on 9th of April with highest-ever voter turnout of 85.96 percent.
The ruling BJP-led NDA’s main constituents are the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodo Peoples’ Front, while the opposition alliance comprises the Congress, Raijor Dal, AJP, CPI(M), All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) and CPI(ML).
