Ayushman Bharat Schemes Under Review, Centre Prioritises Accessible and Quality Healthcare

The National Health Authority, under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, reviewed the progress of two flagship healthcare initiatives – Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The review focused on expanding beneficiary coverage, improving healthcare delivery, strengthening financial protection and accelerating the adoption of digital health services.

The two-day National Review Meeting, which concluded in Kolkata yesterday, brought together senior officials from States and Union Territories to assess the progress of both schemes and discuss priorities for their next phase of implementation. The discussions also highlighted the role of technology, data analytics, automation and Artificial Intelligence in improving operational efficiency, transparency, accountability and healthcare outcomes.

Addressing the meeting, National Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal said the next phase of implementation must go beyond expanding coverage and focus on ensuring better-quality healthcare for beneficiaries. He stressed that every rupee spent on healthcare must translate into better care for the people.
