For the fifth consecutive day, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting Indian positions in Kupwara and Poonch districts during the night of April 27–28. According to defense sources, Indian troops responded “swiftly and effectively” to suppress the aggression.
The renewed hostilities come in the wake of the April 23 terrorist attack near Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including Indian and Nepali tourists. Indian intelligence has blamed the attack on a Pakistan-backed terrorist group, a charge that Islamabad has denied.
In response to the attack and the ongoing ceasefire violations, India has taken several retaliatory steps, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and shutting down cross-border transit points. In turn, Pakistan has reportedly closed its airspace to Indian carriers and heightened military readiness along its side of the border.
With both nations on alert, international observers have expressed growing concern over the escalating conflict and are urging both sides to exercise restraint to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
