‘I Have Not Retired, I Have Just Stepped Down From This Match’: Rohit Sharma Clears Air On His Test Future

Indian men’s cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who is horribly out of form these days, took a big decision on Friday (January 3) and opted out of the fifth Test against Australia, which is currently underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After Rohit opted out of the fifth Test, there were reports of Rohit calling time on his Test career, but the 37-year-old right-handed batter, while speaking to former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan on Saturday, gave a big update about his future.

According to Rohit, he took the decision to sit out of the fifth Test because of his recent form.“Kis taraf jaa raha hoon? Dekhiye, jaise maine bataya ki ye jo decision hai koi retirement ka decision nahi hai. Naa koi mai hatne wala hoon game se. Aisa koi decision nahi hai. But ye game (5^th Test) se mai bahar hua hoon kyuki bat nahi chal raha hai. Koi guarantee nahi hai ki 5 mahine k baad bat nahi chalega. Humne cricket mei bahut dekha hai, every day, every minute life changes. Toh mere ko ye apne aap par belief hai ki things will change but at the same time I have to be realistic as well (Which way am I going? Look, as I told you this decision is not a retirement decision. There is no such decision. But I am out of this game (5th Test) because things are not working. There is no guarantee that things will not work after 5 months. I have seen a lot in cricket, every day, every minute life changes. So I have this belief in myself that things will change but at the same time I have to be realistic as well),” Rohit said on Star Sports.
