Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that India remains focused on becoming the artificial intelligence (AI) “application capital” of the world. Speaking to the media in New Delhi yesterday, Mr Vaishnaw said the country is working towards expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence across key sectors, including agriculture, healthcare and education. He added that Indian industries are making significant progress in developing AI-based applications.
Responding to questions on the recent global fall in technology stocks amid concerns over the future of AI investments, Mr Vaishnaw said the AI industry is undergoing a period of rapid change and uncertainty. He said India is focusing on expanding the use of AI across various sectors and developing applications that can bring about large-scale transformation.
The Minister was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the Semicon 2.0 Web Application Portal. He said the portal has been designed to accept only complete applications, ensuring participation by serious players in the semiconductor industry. Mr Vaishnaw also said that the roadmap for developing an indigenous Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) chip is being finalised. He added that the government will begin accepting applications under the second, third and fourth pillars of the semiconductor programme, giving further impetus to India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
