India, Ghana Sign Agreements to Advance Science, Education & Agriculture

India and Ghana have exchanged two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in scientific research, academics, capacity building, agricultural research and education.

The agreements were exchanged during External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Ghana, as the two countries sought to further deepen their South-South cooperation. Dr. Jaishankar witnessed the exchange of the agreements with Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa. In a social media post, Dr. S Jaishankar said the agreements cover cooperation between the Zoological Survey of India and the University of Ghana in academics, scientific research and capacity building and collaboration between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Ghana’s CSIR-Crops Research Institute in agricultural research and education.

The exchange followed wide-ranging discussions between Dr. Jaishankar and Mr. Ablakwa on strengthening the India-Ghana Comprehensive Partnership. The two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, development, pharmaceuticals, capacity building, defence, technology and people-to-people ties. They also discussed strengthening multilateral cooperation and deepening India’s engagement with the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS. Earlier in the day, Dr. Jaishankar met Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama.

The External Affairs Minister is on a three-nation visit to Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia from yesterday until the 10th of this month. During the visit, he is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and meet the leadership of all three countries to review and further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.
