President Droupadi Murmu and Moldovan President Maia Sandu today agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties across a wide range of sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence and innovation.
In a joint press statement after delegation-level talks in Chisinau, President Murmu described her visit as a historic milestone, as it is the first-ever State Visit by an Indian President to the Republic of Moldova. She said the visit reflects the growing friendship and mutual trust between the two countries, which have shared warm relations for over three decades.
The two leaders agreed to promote greater trade and investment, strengthen resilient supply chains and encourage closer engagement between their business communities. President Murmu expressed confidence that the India-Moldova Business Forum, being held alongside the visit, will provide fresh momentum to economic cooperation.
Highlighting education and capacity building as key pillars of the partnership, the President announced that India will double the number of ITEC training slots for Moldovan professionals, including specialised courses in Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. She also invited Moldovan diplomats to participate in AI and cyber diplomacy programmes at India’s Foreign Service Institute.
President Murmu invited Moldova to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance, while noting the existing cooperation under the International Solar Alliance.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, dialogue and respect for international law. President Murmu reiterated that India has consistently supported the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
The President thanked President Maia Sandu, the Government and the people of Moldova for their warm hospitality and expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to build a stronger, future-oriented and mutually beneficial partnership.
