In a landmark achievement for India’s maritime defense, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Indian Navy, has successfully test-fired the indigenous Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM). This cutting-edge underwater weapon reflects a major stride toward self-reliance in defense technology and reinforces India’s strategic capabilities in naval warfare.
What Is MIGM?
The MIGM is a highly advanced underwater mine tailored for modern naval combat. Designed to detect and neutralize stealth ships and submarines, it utilizes a multi-sensor detection system. This includes sensors for acoustic, magnetic, pressure, and electromagnetic influences—allowing it to accurately identify and target various types of marine vessels.

Cylindrical design for flexible deployment.
Weight: ~1,000 kg in air; negatively buoyant for underwater stability.
Size: 3.0 meters in length, 0.533 meters in diameter.
Power Supply: Powered by a lithium-thionyl chloride primary battery to ensure a long operational lifespan.
Deployment Platforms: Can be launched from ships, Coastal Observation and Patrol Stations (COOPS), and submarines, offering strategic versatility.
Strategic Significance
