Maha Kumbh Mela: 70 Lakh Devotees Taking Part On Any Day, Records AI-Enabled Monitoring

Artificial intelligence-enabled monitoring is being used in Maha Kumbh, the largest religious gathering in the world, to monitor the population and the outflow and inflow of people.

With the AI monitoring, the authorities have found that 10 to 15 lakh people have been visiting the mela on a regular day and are part of the “floating” population that comes and goes.It has been estimated that around 50 to 60 lakh people are staying in Maha Kumbh Nagar which takes the total number of people attending the mela on any day to 65-70 lakh.

On the first day of Maha Kumbh, which is called Paush Purnima, 1.65 crore devotees reached the ghats of the Triveni Sangam to take a holy dip.

The administration is preparing for January 29 when around six crore devotees are likely to gather at Triveni Sangam to take part in the Shahi Snan on Mauni Amavasya.As almost 40 crore people are expected to visit Maha Kumbh Nagar, the monitoring exercise is being carried out by the Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC) where hundreds of officials, police personnel and experts are keeping a tab on every alert coming on their screen.

They are issuing directions to avoid any stampede, streamlining traffic management, checking barricade breaches and also keeping a check on crime, reported The Times Of India.

In the large screens of their office, the AI has been providing real-time information related to population density and sharing the details of the people who are entering and exiting ghats from various entry and exit points.Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar the crucial data in the Kumbh area is being captured by thousands of cameras and the AI is collecting institutional ground information from the road transport department, railways and the Kumbh area.

He added that with the help of the information, the police are sending out alerts for diversions and preventing any overcrowding.
