Mass Deportation of Afghans from Pakistan Sparks Humanitarian Concerns

A deepening humanitarian crisis is unfolding as Pakistan begins detaining Afghan migrants whose residency permits have expired. Despite urgent appeals from international organisations, Pakistani authorities have launched mass arrests, forcing thousands of Afghan families into uncertainty and fear.

According to media reports, children, women, and elderly are among those affected, with families reporting sudden detentions during late-night raids. At the Torkham border, chaotic scenes have emerged as desperate migrants try to flee overcrowded detention threats. Despite appeals from humanitarian agencies, Pakistan plans to deport 1.4 million Afghans with Proof of Registration cards, and 8,00,000 more with Afghan citizenship cards, raising alarm over potential rights violations.
