MIC Confirms Launch of Smart India Hackathon 2025, 8th Edition

The 8th edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025, announced by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), Government of India, in collaboration with AICTE, began today across 60 nodal centres in the country. Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research (WeSchool) in Mumbai is hosting the Software Grand Finale today and tomorrow.

This year, SIH 2025 received a record 72,165 idea submissions from 68,766 student teams addressing 271 problem statements from ministries, state departments, PSUs, and industries. Of these, 1360 teams-comprising more than 8000 students and over 1300 mentors, have qualified for the Grand Finale.

Since 2017, Smart India Hackathon has grown into the world’s largest open innovation platform, promoting creativity, design thinking, and startup culture. The 2025 edition focuses on key areas including space technology, renewable energy, cybersecurity, defence, MedTech, robotics, and smart education.

More than eight thousand students are participating in nodal centres across India, reflecting national integration under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
