Vikas Walkar, father of Shraddha Walkar who was brutally murdered and chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in Delhi’s Mehrauli, passed away of a heart attack in Maharashtra’s Vasai, Palghar.
He was depressed and awaiting his daughter’s ashes, according to the officials.The tragic incident took place amid the ongoing murder trial in Shraddha’s case in which Aaftab is lodged in jail.
Vikas lived with his son in Vasai where his health reportedly suddenly deteriorated in the early hours of Sunday. His son rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
The Vasai Police have ordered a post-mortem, stating that Vikas “apparently died of cardiac arrest”.
He had been fighting for justice for his daughter for over 2 years. Shraddha’s last rites are yet to be conducted as the Delhi Police are due to hand over the remains of her bones that were recovered in the Mehrauli forest to the family.
Shraddha Walkar Murder Case
Shraddha was killed on May 18, 2022, by her live-in partner who strangled her and chopped her body into 35 pieces. He stored the dismembered body parts in a 300-litre refrigerator and disposed of them in the forest areas of Chhatarpur. Both of them lived in a rented accommodation together.
Aaftab was arrested on November 12 that year. The incident sent chills down the spine of the people and created a massive uproar across the country.
Vikas had testified in court that Aaftab confessed in front of him that he had bought two knives, a hammer, and a shovel to chop Shraddha’s wrists. The deceased’s brother had also told the court that Shraddha had said to him that Aaftab assaulted her.
The father had demanded the death penalty for the accused.
