Sitaare Zameen Par advance bookings: Aamir Khan is back on the big screen after a three-year break, and this time he’s challenging Bollywood’s OTT-dominated landscape. His film Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by RS Prasanna, has been held back from a lucrative Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video. Aamir believes this theatrical-first model is essential to revitalise cinema.
But the gamble hasn’t sparked audience excitement yet. Early data from Sacnilk.com, released Wednesday morning, shows a modest Rs 99.74 lakh in advance bookings for opening day—amounting to 38,770 seats sold across 6,128 shows.The Hindi version leads the charge with Rs 90.64 lakh from 29,689 tickets in 5,764 screenings. The Telugu version earned Rs 7.87 lakh across 276 shows, while the Tamil version garnered Rs 1.22 lakh from 88 shows. Including blocked seats, total receipts could reach Rs 3.61 crore. Regionally, Delhi tops the list with Rs 24.09 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at Rs 15.73 lakh and Telangana at Rs 12.47 lakh. With blocked seats taken into account, the film is expected to earn Rs 3.61 crore on the opening day.
These numbers are a far cry from Aamir’s past films—Thugs of Hindostan brought in Rs 27.5 crore in advance and Laal Singh Chaddha earned Rs 5.71 crore—despite both eventually flopping. Still, Sitaare Zameen Par operates with a smaller budget, making direct comparisons unfair.
Set to release on Friday, June 20, Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir alongside Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, and others. The screenplay is by Divy Nidhi Sharma, with Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy composing the music, Ram Sampath scoring the background, and visuals by cinematographer Srinivas Reddy. Charu Shree Roy handles the editing.
Now, all eyes are on how audiences respond during the theatrical run—and whether glowing early reviews can help build momentum.
Meanwhile, after days of speculation surrounding a possible delay, Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par, has officially received its clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), confirming its theatrical release on June 20, 2025.
The film, billed as a spiritual successor to Khan’s critically acclaimed 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, had recently made headlines over reports suggesting a dispute between the actor-producer and the CBFC regarding proposed cuts. While neither party issued a public statement about the nature of the disagreement, it appears the issue has now been resolved.
After Aamir was not satisified with the changes asked by CBFC’s Examining Committee, the Revising Committee (RC), headed by Vaman Kendre, viewed the film on Monday, June 16. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, they asked the makers to replace ‘Business Woman’ with ‘Business Person’. In another scene, the RC replaced ‘Michael Jackson’ to ‘Lovebirds’. A visual with the word ‘Kamal’ was asked to be removed and replaced without the ‘lotus’ word. The old disclaimer was deleted and a new disclaimer was added with the voiceover. Finally, the CBFC’s RC asked the makers to add a quote of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the opening disclaimer.
