Two earthquakes hit northwestern Nepal

Two earthquakes struck Nepal’s northwestern Mugu district within three hours early this morning. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

According to Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the first earthquake was measured 4.5 magnitude, followed by a 4.2-magnitude tremor. Both had their epicentre around Kalai in Mugu district.

The earthquakes come as Nepal continues to recover from the devastating August 26 Bhote Koshi flash floods, which swept through the Rasuwa-Trishuli river system and several downstream districts.

At least 1,403 bodies have been recovered, while 4,089 people remain missing. Search, identification and relief operations continue in the affected areas.
