Waqf Amendment Bill, Rajya Sabha  The Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on late Wednesday night after an over 12-hour-long marathon debate on the legislation. Now, the Bill has been taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha today.
In the Lok Sabha, 288 votes were cast in favour, while 232 went against the Bill after the debate was held in the lower house, where several political parties – from the treasury as well as the Opposition benches – presented their arguments.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had introduced the Bill in Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the conclusion of the Question Hour. The Bill was taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha after the Question Hour, which is held from 12 noon to 1 pm.
The Budget Session of the Parliament will conclude on April 4.
