Social media platform WhatsApp has submitted its reply to the government regarding the rollout of the Usernames feature. Sources at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology have said that a response was received last night from the Meta-owned social media platform and is currently under examination.
Earlier on the 1st of this month, the Government had issued a notice to Meta regarding the rollout of the Usernames feature on WhatsApp in India. Sources said that the Ministry directed Meta to furnish a detailed explanation on the feature. The Ministry also directed Meta not to roll out the usernames feature until consultation on the matter is over.
