The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made a total revised allocation of Rs 520 crore for the Regional Offices at Guwahati and Itanagar for the development of roads under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) in the financial year of 2024-25.
The revised allocation has been made for incurring expenditure on sanctioned road projects under SARDP-NE.
In this regard, MoRTH issued a communiqué to the Regional Pay & Accounts Officer, MoRTH, in Guwahati on December 31, 2024.
Of the total revised allocation of Rs 520 crore, an amount of Rs 290 crore has been allocated for the Regional Office, Guwahati, and Rs 230 crore for the Regional Office, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh). The allocation has been made for state PWDs and BRO works.
The Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North East (SARDP-NE) was launched in 2005 by the central government with the objective of upgrading to 2/4 lanes of NHs connecting state capitals, providing connectivity to district headquarter towns of the Northeast Region (NER) by at least a 2-lane road, providing road connectivity to backward and remote areas of NER to boost socio-economic development, improving roads of strategic importance in border areas, and improving connectivity to neighbouring countries. SARDP-NE is still being implemented in the NER.
