World Uyghur Congress organizes global protests against deportation of Uyghur refugees to China

The World Uyghur Congress and affiliated organizations staged protests worldwide urging the Thai government not to repatriate 48 Uyghur refugees to China. Activists rallied outside Thai embassies, emphasizing the severe risk of persecution, torture, and forced labor these individuals face if returned.

The protests are part of a broader international appeal for action to protect Uyghur rights amid reports of mass detentions and cultural erasure in China. Formal letters were submitted to Thai embassies, urging compliance with international obligations to prevent deportation.

U.S. Congressman Tom Suozzi also called on Thailand to halt the deportation of 43 detained Uyghur refugees, warning of dire consequences, including torture and ethnic cleansing. He reminded Thailand of its commitments under the Convention Against Torture, which prohibits returning individuals to countries where they face mistreatment. The situation highlights the ongoing plight of the Uyghur population and the need for greater international intervention.
