The Islamabad High Court is scheduled to hear a petition seeking intervention against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned nationwide mobilisation and march on Islamabad on September 27.
Petitioner Waqas Ahmed argues that the protest could disrupt traffic, businesses and ordinary life. He has also asked the court to prevent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities from using provincial resources for political activity.
PTI says the demonstrations will demand constitutional government, rule of law and the release of former prime minister Imran Khan. Party leaders describe peaceful protest as a constitutional right.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is expected to lead the Islamabad-bound march. He has accused authorities of obstructing PTI’s political activity and ignoring court directions relating to access to and medical treatment for Khan.
The petition does not establish that PTI intends violence or unlawful conduct. The court must balance security and public-order concerns against freedom of assembly.
