Pakistan raises petrol by PKR12.90 as daily fuel revision takes effect

Petrol now costs PKR358.77 a litre and high-speed diesel PKR381.77, increasing pressure on households, transporters and businesses.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan increased petrol prices by PKR12.90 per litre from Tuesday, raising the retail rate to PKR358.77. High-speed diesel rose by PKR3.72 to PKR381.77 per litre.

The government continues to collect PKR114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and PKR100 on diesel, according to Dawn. Pakistan introduced daily fuel-price revisions in July after the US-Iran conflict caused sharp volatility in international energy markets.

Petrol is extensively used by motorcyclists, rickshaw drivers and small-vehicle owners, while diesel affects freight, agriculture, public transport and power generation. The increase could therefore feed into food and distribution costs even if international prices subsequently moderate.

The revisions also illustrate Pakistan’s exposure to imported energy and disruptions around the Gulf. The next price will depend on crude markets, the Pakistani rupee and government taxation decisions.
