New Delhi, February 1, 2025 – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Union Budget 2025, marking her record eighth consecutive budget. The budget is anticipated to introduce relief measures for the middle class grappling with inflation and stagnant wages while maintaining fiscal discipline.
According to the Economic Survey 2024-25, India’s economy is projected to grow between 6.3% and 6.8% in the financial year 2025-26. Experts highlight that structural reforms and deregulation will be crucial in sustaining long-term growth, while investment activity is expected to gain momentum.
Ahead of the budget announcement, President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to a joint session of Parliament, emphasized the government’s commitment to steering the economy away from “policy paralysis.” She acknowledged global challenges such as the post-pandemic economic impact and geopolitical uncertainties but reiterated the administration’s determination to ensure economic resilience and progress.
The Budget Session will also see the introduction of sixteen key bills, including the Finance Bill 2025, proposed amendments to the Waqf Act and Banking Regulations Act, and legislation aimed at merging the Indian Railways and Indian Railways Board Acts. These reforms are expected to bring significant structural changes to India’s financial and transportation sectors.
