Rescue operations are underway in Badrinath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district after an avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp on Friday, trapping around 42 workers under the snow. The incident took place near the border village of Mana, about five kilometres from the Badrinath temple.
There were a total of 57 workers, of which 15 have been rescued successfully and sent to the army camp near Mana village in critical condition, an official said.
Heavy Snowfall Restructing Rescue Ops
According to the officials, the rescue operations are being obstructed by heavy snowfall. Nearly 50 personnel from the BRO, Equipment, Indian Army, and other state agencies are currently on task.
Responding to the current situation, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Suman said, “The situation there is difficult as there is continuous snowfall in the area. A team of 65 people is engaged in the rescue mission. Operation is underway to rescue those trapped. We have made a demand for Army helicopters. Rescued persons have been admitted to ITBP hospital in Mana.”
Helicopters Grounded Due To Bad Weather
Due to the ongoing weather conditions, helicopter service cannot be used. “Rescue mission is underway. Due to inclement weather, helicopter service cannot be used. We are trying to rescue the labourers. The offices of the PM and home minister are in touch with us,” Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the rescue operations are being carried out by the teams of BRO and ITBP, and other agencies. Dhami assured that everyone that will be rescued as soon as possible. He also informed that the Prime Minister’s Office and the Home Minister’s Office are in constant touch with him.
“Sad news has been received about several workers being trapped due to an avalanche during a construction project operated by BRO near Mana village in Chamoli district. Rescue and relief operations are being carried out by ITBP, BRO, and other rescue teams. Praying to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the workers,” he posted on X.
