Mauritius honored the legacy of #DrManmohanSingh, India’s former Prime Minister, by flying its national flag at half-mast on all government buildings until sunset on Saturday, December 28, 2024. This act of respect coincided with the day of his funeral.

In a statement, the Mauritius Prime Minister’s Office said, “Following the passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of the Republic of India, the public is hereby informed that the Mauritius flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings until sunset today.” The government also encouraged the private sector to lower their flags to half-mast in tribute.

Mauritius Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, #DhananjayRamful, traveled to Delhi to attend Dr. Singh’s funeral, sources confirmed.

On Friday, Mauritius Prime Minister #NavinRamgoolam visited India’s High Commission in #PortLouis to sign a Condolence Book opened in memory of the former Indian leader. The Indian High Commission in Mauritius shared a message on X, stating:
“Hon’ble Dr. @PmRamgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius, visited the @HCI_PortLouis and signed the Condolence Book opened in memory of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India.”

Reflecting on his first meeting with Dr. Singh, Prime Minister Ramgoolam described him as a “gentleman politician and eminent economist.” In a heartfelt #FacebookPost, Ramgoolam expressed his sorrow:
“It is with profound sadness that I have just learnt of the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. I first met him when I was Leader of the Opposition, during his official visit to Mauritius before the 2005 elections. Dr. Singh was a gentleman politician and a distinguished economist who transformed India’s economic landscape. His humility, integrity, and calmness will always be remembered. On behalf of the people of Mauritius and my government, I offer our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at #AIIMSDelhi at the age of 92 due to age-related ailments. He was cremated earlier today with full state honors at #NigambodhGhat in Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. The ceremony was attended by his family, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries.
