Afghan Taliban Retaliates Against ‘Hypothetical Line’ Strikes in Disputed Border Areas
#Kabul: Afghan Taliban forces launched attacks on “several points” in neighboring #Pakistan, Afghanistan’s #DefenceMinistry said on Saturday. The retaliation follows #PakistaniAirstrikes conducted earlier this week inside Afghan territory.
In a statement, the ministry referred to targeting areas “beyond the ‘#HypotheticalLine,’” a term used by Afghan authorities to denote the #DisputedBorder with Pakistan, historically known as the #DurandLine.
“Several points beyond the hypothetical line, serving as centres and hideouts for #MaliciousElements and their supporters, were targeted in retaliation from the #SoutheasternDirection of the country,” the ministry stated.
When asked whether the statement referred to Pakistan, ministry spokesman #EnayatullahKhowarazmi remarked: “We do not consider it to be the territory of Pakistan, therefore, we cannot confirm the territory, but it was on the other side of the hypothetical line.”
Afghanistan has long rejected the #DurandLine, drawn during British colonial rule, as its border with Pakistan. This contentious boundary divides the tribal belt, an area that remains volatile and contested.
No specific details about #Casualties or areas targeted were provided. The #PakistaniMilitary and the #ForeignAffairsMinistry of Pakistan did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The strikes come after Afghan authorities issued warnings of retaliation, alleging that #PakistaniBombardment earlier in the week had resulted in #CivilianCasualties. Islamabad had stated that it was targeting #MilitantHideouts along the border.
