Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence announced on Saturday that its forces had launched an attack on multiple locations inside Pakistan in retaliation of deadly airstrikes conducted last week.
Comments from the Taliban’s Ministry of Defence, posted on X on Saturday, did not clearly confirm that Pakistan was targeted, but noted that the strikes were carried out “beyond the ‘hypothetical line’”—a term Afghan authorities use to refer to the disputed border with Pakistan.
It further stated that its forces targeted sites that “served as centres and hideouts for malicious elements and their supporters who organised and coordinated attacks in Afghanistan.” The ministry did not disclose whether there were casualties or provide details on how the strikes were executed.Last Tuesday, Pakistan launched an operation targeting a training facility in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province, aiming to eliminate insurgents. The airstrikes resulted in the deaths of dozens of people, the majority of whom were women and children.Pakistani officials have accused the Taliban of failing to curb cross-border militant activities. However, the Taliban government denies these allegations, asserting that it does not permit anyone to use Afghan territory to carry out attacks against other countries.
