Oslo: A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight bound for Amsterdam made an emergency landing at Sandefjord Torp Airport in Norway on Saturday night due to a hydraulic failure shortly after takeoff from Oslo Airport. The Boeing 737-800, carrying 176 passengers and six crew members, landed safely but skidded off the runway, coming to a stop on soft grass near a taxiway.
Video footage shared on social media shows passengers being evacuated using mobile stairs as emergency responders arrived at the scene. Fortunately, all 182 individuals on board were unharmed.
KLM released a statement confirming the incident, noting that a loud noise was heard during takeoff, leading to the decision to divert the aircraft. Despite a safe landing, the pilots were unable to fully control the plane, causing it to veer off the runway.
The airline reassured that passengers and crew were unharmed and were provided care. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
The flight departed from Oslo at 6:55 pm (local time) and landed at Sandefjord Torp Airport at 7:14 pm. After safely evacuating the passengers, they were transported to the airport terminal by bus, with everyone disembarking by 9:00 pm local time.
The incident occurred just hours before another Boeing 737-800, operated by Jeju Air, crashed while landing in South Korea, leaving many feared dead.
