The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the closure of the brick kilns operating in Panchkhal municipality in the Kavre District of the country, citing their serious impacts on the environment and public health. Kavre is an adjoining district of Kathmandu Valley. Air Pollution in Kathmandu reached hazardous levels in the past 60 days.
At present, eight brick kilns are in operation in Panchkhal. Meanwhile, Panchkhal Municipality has adopted a policy to promote industries, including brick kilns, in a corrective manner by formulating an environmental policy.
