US Vice-President JD Vance blamed the war with Iran for the Republican Party’s defeat in the 2026 midterm elections, saying that some voters who backed Donald Trump in 2024 had switched their support to the Democrats. In a social media post, Vance said the setback was not due to low voter turnout but to former Trump supporters voting against the Republicans.
Meanwhile, Republican Congressman Jim Jordan, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, plans to run for House Republican leader, while House Majority Leader Steve Scalise is also expected to enter the race.
Democrats have secured control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, dealing a major setback to Trump. In an interview with a news channel, Trump congratulated the Democrats, saying that both parties would work together during the final two years of his term.
