The Meghalaya honeymoon murder case has taken a darker turn with fresh revelations pointing to a well-orchestrated conspiracy behind the killing of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a deep gorge during what was meant to be a celebratory trip with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
Sonam has now been named the prime accused in her husband’s murder, with her alleged lover also involved in the plot, according to sources. Raj Kushwaha, who was reportedly in a relationship with Sonam, has been identified as the mastermind behind the killing. Three others — Vicky Thakur, Akash, and Anand — are believed to have carried out the murder.
Apart from Sonam, Anand, too, has been arrested from Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, as police intensify the hunt for the remaining accused. Sources say coordinated raids are underway in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to trace the rest of the accused.
On the other hand, Vipul Raghuvanshi, brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, said: “I had no idea about those 3-4 people till the time I did not know their names. Raj Kushwaha’s name has come forward, which means Sonam can be involved in the murder. Raj Kushwaha was Sonam’s employee. They would constantly talk on phone.”
The case, which began as a missing persons alert for Sonam Raghuvanshi, escalated rapidly when her husband’s body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in Meghalaya. Days later, Sonam was traced and taken into custody in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur.
Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang had earlier confirmed that Raja was allegedly murdered by men hired by his wife. While Sonam was reported to have surrendered, Raja’s family claimed she had instead reached out to them in fear and was handed over to the police.
