US President Donald Trump today said that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an energy ceasefire. In a social media post, President Trump said the ceasefire would take effect immediately and urged both countries to honour the agreement.
Meanwhile, neither Russia nor Ukraine has immediately commented on the reported ceasefire. The announcement came a day after President Trump blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for attacks on diesel facilities in Russia, which he said had contributed to a global diesel shortage.
Earlier, Mr Trump called for a change in Ukraine’s leadership, accusing Ukrainian President of failing to secure a peace agreement with Russia. He also blamed him for rising diesel prices in the United States.
Tensions escalated after Washington on Friday announced a major agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin under which Moscow would supply millions of tonnes of diesel to the United States. Mr Zelenskyy criticised the move, saying that allowing Russia to sell petroleum products would effectively help finance its war
