The Indian Army has continued its large-scale Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations across flood-hit regions of Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli following incessant rainfall that triggered widespread flooding.
Launched on the evening of 23 July 2026 under the aegis of Southern Command, the relief mission is being conducted in close coordination with the NDRF, SDRF, civil administration, police and other agencies.
The Army has deployed seven Relief and Rescue Columns, comprising Engineer and Medical teams, across the affected areas. Two columns are operating in Navsari, one in the Valsad–Vapi region, three in Ahmedabad (covering Ahmedabad City, Ahmedabad Rural and the Ahmedabad–Rajkot Highway), and one in Silvassa. Additional rescue columns remain on standby at Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar to respond swiftly to any emerging situation.
Since the operations began, Army personnel have rescued 355 stranded civilians, carrying out evacuation missions in severely inundated and inaccessible areas. Teams have successfully rescued people trapped for extended periods in flooded buildings and isolated settlements despite challenging conditions.
Medical teams have also provided emergency healthcare, while relief personnel distributed food, drinking water and other essential supplies to affected residents awaiting evacuation or restoration of connectivity.
The Indian Army stated that rescue and relief efforts are continuing in seamless coordination with all concerned agencies to ensure timely humanitarian assistance reaches every affected area.
