The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, which celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday, has emerged as “a stabilising force” carrying significant weight to play its role to promote world peace, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
The 10-member Beijing-based bloc, in which India is a member, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a reception attended, among others, by Wang Yi and diplomats of the member countries.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a stabilising, constructive and positive force that carries significant weight and is well positioned to promote world peace, development, cooperation, Wang said, addressing the reception.
“There is much we can do to take responsibility to act with initiative, lead by example and make contribution”, he said.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the SCO has grown into a comprehensive regional cooperation organisation that covers the biggest area and population with enormous development potential.
