India Backs Sustainable Transport in Sri Lanka with 430 Electric Motorbikes

India will provide 430 electric motorbikes to field officers in Sri Lanka’s fisheries sector under a new Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Sri Lankan Fisheries Ministry Secretary Dr. B.K. Kolita Kamal Jinadasa, in the presence of Minister of Fisheries Ramalingam Chandrasekar.

Under the agreement, India will extend grant assistance worth 265 million Sri Lankan rupees to strengthen the mobility and operational efficiency of fisheries officials.

The initiative will support faster field-level services and engagement with fishing communities, while promoting environmentally sustainable transport under Sri Lanka’s Clean Sri Lanka programme.

The assistance reflects India’s continued commitment to people-centric development cooperation across Sri Lanka.
