Initiative to stop Gaza war: Trump holds important talks with Pakistani and Arab leaders

US President Donald Trump held a multilateral meeting on the Gaza issue on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York with selected leaders from Muslim countries, including Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by leaders from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

Discussed possible diplomatic, political and humanitarian options aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza

The talks discussed potential diplomatic, political, and humanitarian options aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza. The leaders discussed measures to de-escalate tensions, establish a ceasefire, and ensure long-term stability in the region.

Trump said we want to end the war in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump said this was his “most important meeting” of the day and aimed to bring a swift end to the war in Gaza. “This is my most important meeting today,” he said at the start of the meeting. “I’ve had many important meetings, but this one means the most to me because we want to end a war that you probably didn’t start. We want to end the war in Gaza. We’re going to end it. Maybe we can end it right now,” he said.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim thanks Donald Trump for arranging a meeting on the Gaza issue

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim thanked Donald Trump for hosting the meeting on the Gaza issue and said Arab leaders are counting on him to end the conflict. “We are here solely to stop the war and bring back the hostages,” he told the US president. “We count on you and your leadership to end this war and help the people of Gaza.”

Trump blames Hamas for rejecting peace proposal at UN General Assembly

Donald Trump did not answer reporters’ questions after the meeting, but said they had a very good meeting. Earlier, during his address to the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump directly blamed Hamas for rejecting “reasonable proposals” to establish peace and criticized countries that have recently recognized a Palestinian state.

Trump said some countries appear to be trying to unilaterally recognize Palestine to fuel the conflict.

He added, “We cannot forget October 7th. It seems some countries are trying to unilaterally recognize Palestine to fuel the conflict. This would be a huge reward for Hamas terrorists and their atrocities. Those who want peace must say in one voice, ‘Release the hostages now.'” This week, 10 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Portugal and the United Kingdom, formally recognized Palestine.
