India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) summit in New York, including with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weele and Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.
After meeting Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel, S Jaishankar wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “The meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel in New York was commendable. Had an in-depth discussion on the European strategic situation and India’s perspective.”
In another post, S Jaishankar wrote, “Delighted to meet Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. Reviewed the progress of our bilateral cooperation.”
“Had a wonderful conversation with Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste of St. Lucia. Always enjoy his company,” Jaishankar posted after meeting St. Lucia’s Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste.
In another important event, he held discussions with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. After the meeting, Jaishankar said, “I appreciate the conversation. His insights on the latest developments in Europe and the Ukraine conflict were valuable. We also discussed bilateral relations and India-EU cooperation under the Danish presidency.”
He also held talks with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in what he described as a “quick conversation” during a high-level meeting of like-minded global South countries.
“Had a brief conversation with my friend Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of like-minded Global South countries in New York,” Jaishankar wrote in a post.
Besides, he also met Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, where he reiterated India’s ‘steadfast support’ for the development of the island nation.
In his meeting with Mauritius Foreign Minister Ritesh Ramphul, Jaishankar discussed Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s recent visit to India. “It was a pleasure to meet Mauritius Foreign Minister Ritesh Ramphul in New York. We discussed Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s recent successful visit to India,” he said.
