Bangladesh: Awami League raises ‘death in custody’ issue, blames Yunus regime

Bangladesh’s Awami League party has termed the custodial death of its leader Abu Bakr Siddique Munna as murder. The party accused the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus of harassing its leaders and activists. Abu Bakr Siddique Munna, who was lodged in Gaibandha District Jail, died on Monday.

Fascist Yunus and his associates are killing Awami League leaders and workers

Strongly criticising the Yunus regime, the party said the people of Bangladesh are watching how the “forceful usurper, murderer, fascist Yunus and his cronies” are killing Awami League leaders and workers through various means.

We express our condolences to the bereaved family and assure them of justice.

The Awami League issued a statement saying, “In the same sequence, Awami League leader and former Union Parishad Chairman Abu Bakr Siddiqui Munna (Munna Chairman) has been murdered in Kanchipara Union of Fulchhari Upazila, Gaibandha. We strongly condemn and protest this premeditated murder by the murderous, fascist Yunus and his associates who forcibly usurped power. We also express our solidarity with the bereaved family and assure them that they will receive justice in the future.”

The Yunus regime is implicating Awami League, 14-Party Alliance leaders and businessmen in fake cases.

The party alleged that the Yunus regime was implicating Awami League leaders and activists, leaders of the 14-party alliance, and people from various professions in false cases. According to the Awami League, prisons are considered to be among the most secure places in the world, but detainees in Bangladesh are being subjected to hellish torture. It also alleged that prisoners are being subjected to physical and mental torture, resulting in the number of deaths in custody increasing every day.

Despite public concern and calls from families over custodial killings in several districts, the Yunus government remains unconcerned.

The party further stated that recently, custodial killings have occurred in several districts across the country, including Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Gaibandha. Despite public concern and the cries of grieving families, the Yunus government remains indifferent.

Awami League leaders and workers are being tortured and murdered in various ways.

The party said, “Awami League leaders and activists are still being subjected to various forms of torture and even killed. False and harassing cases are being filed against all of them. While bail is granted in one case, in another, they are unjustly detained using ‘sham arrests.’ Thus, in addition to physical torture, Awami League leaders and activists are also being subjected to mental torture to kill them.”
