Japan and Bangladesh signed an agreement on the transfer of defense equipment and technology, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.
“On February 3 (same day local time), in Dhaka, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. SAIDA Shinichi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, BSP, ndc, hdmc, psc, PhD, Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Chief Advisor’s Office of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, signed the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh concerning the Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology. The Agreement entered into force on February 3,” the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The agreement establishes a legal framework for the management of defence equipment and technology to be transferred between the two governments for the purpose of implementing jointly determined projects, including those that contribute to international peace and security, the statement added.
The agreement will ensure appropriate control over subsequent transfers of defence equipment and technology to third parties or their misuse, the statement noted.
