The Patna High Court on Wednesday took strong exception to an AI-generated video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Hiraben shared on social media by the Bihar Congress and ordered its immediate removal.
Acting Chief Justice P.B. Bajantri directed the Congress to immediately remove the video from all social media platforms.
The controversial video, shared by the Bihar unit of the Congress party on “X” (formerly Twitter), showed PM Modi’s mother appearing in his dreams. The BJP and NDA allies strongly objected to the video, calling it “disrespectful” and “beyond political decorum.”
The High Court stated that such a video was not acceptable in political discourse and ordered the Congress party to ensure its complete removal from the Internet.
This order is being considered a blow to Congress before the Bihar Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders welcomed the court’s decision, calling it a “lesson” for the Congress party. However, there has been no official response from the Congress party to the order.
Earlier also, during the Grand Alliance’s ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in Darbhanga, a video of a man using abusive language against Prime Minister Modi and his mother from the stage had gone viral, to which the BJP and NDA allies had reacted sharply.
BJP leaders had demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, while in many districts party workers protested, burnt effigies of both the leaders and raised slogans.
